Pass the Hong Kong Pleasure Vessel Operator Exam

The Grade 2 Certificate (PVOC2) Exam Explained: Part A Navigation, Seamanship and Safety and Part B Engineering Knowledge, with 200 Practice Questions and Three Full 40-Question Mock Exams at the Real 60% Pass Mark

Ebook. Also on other Apple Books and Google Play Books stores.

Preparing for the Pleasure Vessel Operator Grade 2 Certificate (PVOC2) exam in Hong Kong, and facing local rules, signals and engine questions in a second language? This guide explains what each part of the exam tests, the Hong Kong rules and the traps behind the usual wrong answers, then lets you practise until the answers come without hesitation.

The exam has two parts, Part A (Navigation, Seamanship and Safety) and Part B (Engineering Knowledge). Each part has 40 multiple-choice questions with four options and 45 minutes, and the pass mark is 60% for each part, which means at least 24 correct answers out of 40. The practice questions and the three mock exams use the same size and the same pass mark, so you train on the rules rather than on a copy of the exam.

What is inside:

  • 11 short chapters you can read on a phone: the exam format, booking and your certificate; handling your boat; charts, compass and tides; Hong Kong waters, speed limits and VHF; the Collision Regulations; lights, shapes and signals; buoys, weather and typhoon signals; emergencies and safety equipment; and, for Part B, how marine engines work, running the engine, and electrics, fire and LPG on board
  • 3 appendices: the numbers to remember, a glossary of boating and engine terms, and a seven-day revision plan with an exam day checklist
  • 200 original practice questions, 125 for Part A and 75 for Part B, every one with the correct answer and a short explanation
  • 3 full mock exams of 40 questions each (two for Part A, one for Part B), marked at the real 60% pass mark

Rules are current at the time of writing. Check the official examination documents before your exam date, as fees, dates and procedures can change.

All questions are original. This is an independent study guide: it is not produced, endorsed or approved by any authority or examination organisation, and it does not contain real exam questions. It does not replace the official examination guidebook.
